Ian Primrose Liston-Foulis was born on 9 August 1937, the son of Lieutenant-Colonel James Alistair Liston-Foulis, Royal Artillery - who was killed on active service in 1942. He was educated at Stonyhurst College; Cannington Farm Institute and in Madrid. As a National Serviceman, 1957-59, he served with the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders in Cyprus, 1958. In 1961 he succeeded his cousin, Sir Archibald Charles Liston-Foulis as the 13th Baronet Liston-Foulis of Colinton, Edinburgh. Employed as a Language Teacher at Madrid, since 1966.
