Board of Trade Medal for Gallantry in Saving Life at Sea, V.R., large, bronze (Alfred Clulow Wreck of the “Majestic” on the 12th February 1894) nearly extremely fine £250-300

Alfred Clulow, Robert Wilson and Arthur Holmes of the smack Mercury of Yarmouth were each awarded the Bronze Medal for Gallantry and a gratuity of £1 for rescuing the crew of the smack Majestic.

The three ‘manned the
Mercury’s boat and rescued the crew of the smack Majestic of London, which was abandoned in the North Sea. A strong gale was blowing at the time with heavy broken sea. The rescuers ran considerable risk.’ (Ref. The Sea Gallantry Medal, by R. J. Scarlett)
