Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 3 clasps, Natal, Orange Free State, Transvaal (27400 Pte. J. Birrell, 20th Coy. Imp. Yeo.) good very fine £80-100

James Birrell was born in Newburgh, Fife. A Farmer by occupation, he attested for the Imperial Yeomanry at Cupar on 16 February 1901. Posted to the 20th Company 6th Battalion Imperial Yeomanry (Fife and Forfar Light Horse) he served in South Africa, March 1901-April 1902. He was discharged as medically unfit at Bloemfontein on 4 March 1902, being discharged from the 20th Company I.Y., attached 1st Provisional Battalion, at Shorncliffe on 4 May 1902. With copied service papers and roll extract.
