M.S.M. London Gazette 17 June 1918. ‘... in recognition of valuable services rendered with the Forces in France during the present war.’ ‘787 A./Sjt. Inst., Army Gym. Staff (Cornwall)’.

Eight ‘France’ M.S.M’s. awarded to the Army Gymnastic Staff.

Robert Graham Lean, a Schoolmaster, enlisted on 30 November 1915, aged 25 years, five months. Serving initially with the Northamptonshire Regiment, he entered France on 17 June 1916. Later with the Army Gymnastic Staff he was awarded the M.S.M. Transferred to Class ‘Z’ Reserve on 4 February 1919. Entitled to the British War and Victory Medals. With copied service papers, gazette extracts, m.i.c. for the W.W.1 medals and other research.
