Lionel Murray Hughes was born at Whangaroa, New Zealand, on 20 February 1896. He attested on 16 December 1916, was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant on 15 November 1917, and served in France with the 4th Battalion, 3rd New Zealand (Rifle) Brigade. He was killed in action on 27 March 1918 and is buried in Euston Road Cemetery, Colincamps, France. Sold with copies from his War Office correspondence file.
