James I (1603-1625), Second coinage, 1616, mm. book (over tun on rev.?), fourth bust, 2.52g/6h (N 2103; S 2658). Striking crack at 8 o’clock, ragged at 10 o’clock and dagger-pierced above mark of value, otherwise fine, believed the only known specimen of this mint-mark £600-800

This lot was sold as part of a special collection, Collection of Sixpences formed by the late Alfred Bole.

At one time this was believed to be the only English coin dated 1616 extant, but at least one other is now known (see previous lot)
