The following recommendation is taken from Admiralty records: ‘Frank Leslie Banner, of Kentish Town, London, Temporary Acting Leading Seaman, H.M.S. Tartar. Operation “Retribution” and 7 sweeps into enemy waters in the period immediately proceeding it, during which Tartar was in action with “E” Boats, Merchant Ships and Aircraft. Leading Seaman Banner is Captain of the most consistent gun mounting in the ship. During the long periods at action stations which were necessary in this operation his example has, as usual, been responsible for the reputation of his quarters being maintained throughout.’ Sold with further details including the full action report and a copy news cutting with photo of the recipient.
