George Whatling, who was born in January 1911, enlisted in the Royal Air Force as an Apprentice Clerk in April 1928, and was commissioned from Flight Sergeant in June 1940. Mentioned in despatches (London Gazette 1 January 1946 refers), he was placed on the Retired List as a Squadron Leader in September 1951 after a final appointment in the Secretarial Branch; sold with brief research.
