Tomyns Reginald Browne was a Locomotive Superintendent on the East Indian Railway. He was granted a commission in the East Indian Railway Volunteer Rifle Corps on 3 July 1878. Promoted to Captain in October 1884, he was granted the honorary rank of Major in August 1893. Browne was awarded the Volunteer Officers’ Decoration on 2 October 1896. In February 1899 he was placed on the Supernumerary List but was restored to the establishment two years later. He was promoted to Lieutenant-Colonel in the East Indian Railway V.R.C. in January 1902, serving as second in command. During 1904 he served as Acting Commandant of the unit. For his services during the Great War, Browne was awarded the M.B.E. (London Gazette 7 January 1918) as ‘Inspector of Gun Ammunition (Supervisory), Ministry of Munitions’. Lieutenant-Colonel Browne, M.B.E., V.D., died at Tenterden, on 14 December 1920. Sold with copied research.
