The Great War Medals awarded to Lieutenant V. C. Roberts, No. 9 Squadron, Royal Flying Corps, formerly Northumberland Fusiliers, who was wounded by ground fire during the Third Battle of Ypres

1914-15 Star (Lieut., R.F.C.); British War and Victory Medals (Lieut., R.F.C.), nearly extremely fine (3) £100-120

Lieutenant Victor Cyril Roberts was wounded in action on the 31 July 1917 whilst on a contact patrol, when he was hit in the leg by ground fire. The 9 July 1917 was the day of the Third Battle of Ypres, due to the heavy rain the planes involved in contact patrols were forced to fly very low, thus risking themselves to the effects of ground fire. As a result of the wound received by Roberts in this action his subsequent work with the R.A.F. was restricted to light duties. Sold with 10 copied pages of research detail.
