An M.V.O. pair awarded to Frederick James Dadd, Civil Service

The Royal Victorian Order, M.V.O., Member’s 5th Class breast badge, silver, silver-gilt and enamel, reverse officially numbered, ‘744’, in Collingwood, London case of issue; Defence Medal, unnamed; with a Borough of Bermondsey Coronation Medal 1902, white metal, unnamed; together with a Swagger Stick, c.93cm. long, with a silver knob engraved, ‘Presented to F. J. Dadd Esq., as a mark of appreciation from the members of the 33rd Middlesex V.A.D. Detachment, April 1917’, first two extremely fine (4) £350-400

M.V.O. London Gazette 10 June 1948. ‘For personal services to The Sovereign as Warrants Clerk, Home Office’.

Frederick James Dadd was born in 1894 the son of Frederick J. Dadd of Bridport, Dorset. Educated at Ealing, he entered the Civil Service in 1912, serving in the Admiralty, 1912-13; Home Office, 1913-54, and was Assistant Registrar of the Baronetage, 1938-54. Served in the 33rd Middlesex V.A.D. from July 1915 but was unsuccessful in his application for the British War Medal 1914-20.
