Bernard Lyon was born on 4 October 1893. Employed as a Railway Wagon Shunter, he was a member of the 1/4th King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry-T.F. With the onset of war, his Territorial Battalion became part of 148 Brigade, 49 (West Riding) Division. Lyon entered Boulogne on 13 April 1915 and was initially employed as a Cook, but towards the end of May 1916 he was deployed as a Sniper. Private Bernard Lyon was killed in action on 7 July 1916 at Thiepval. Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
With a quantity of copied research, including a a copy of the article, ‘Some Great War Lyon Toffs and Toughs’, by Dan Lyon, which appeared in the O.M.R.S. Journal of June 2009.
