Sergeant Frederick Maximillian Graue served first with the 23rd Battalion in Gallipoli and subsequently with the 6th Machine Gun Company in France. Sold with comprehensive copied service papers and extracts from the regimental history of the 6th Machine Gun Company which mentions Sergeant Graue on several occasions, confirming him as twice wounded in action in France. One extract reads ‘During the attack one of the guns sustained a broken lock. Graue dashed across to a dug-out and obtained a spare one. He had just returned when he was struck in the wrist and abdomen by a bullet, and fell across the gun. The area was swept by enemy fire, but four Battalion stretcher-bearers carried the wounded man away.’
