Citation: ‘Lord Hyndley, British Civilian, for exceptionally meritorious achievement which aided the United States in the prosecution of the war against the enemy in Continental Europe, as Chairman, Coal Committee of the Combines Production and Resources Board, from August 1943 to 8 May 1945. He rendered invaluable service to the Allied Forces by instigating and directing this Committee in the promotion and development of all coal resources, and in the conservation of coal by planning its proper distribution so as to make the maximum amount available for operational purposes. His indominable energy, ingenuity, and keen judgment enabled him to overcome seemingly insurmountable difficulties, thereby materially contributing to the success of the war effort, and meriting the highest praise and recognition of the United States’.
