James Blenkin was born at Myton, Kingston-upon-Hull, on 3 December 1844. He enlisted for the Royal Artillery on 28 December 1865, and served in Canada from May 1866 to October 1867. He received his L.S. & G.C. medal in 1884 (G.O. 52 of April 1884) at which time he was serving with the 1st Hampshire Artillery Volunteers, and was discharged on 2 June 1894. Recommended for the M.S.M. and Annuity in January 1906, he eventually received this award in 1915 (A.O. 291 of August 1915) when he was recorded as being ‘late Permanent Staff, 2nd Hampshire Royal Garrison Artillery Volunteers’. James Blenkin died at Southampton on 6 October 1926, aged 81. Sold with copy service papers and other research.
