Elizabeth II (1952-, England, Elizabeth II, Pattern 25 Pence, 1972, the positive model for a rev. by T.H. Paget, bust of Prince Philip right, silver wedding anniversary 1947-1972 h · r · h · the duke of edinburgh k · g · k · t · around, value below, 250mm. Minor circumferential damage but the field unaffected, extremely fine with a high relief portrait, UNIQUE (£800-1,000)

Provenance:
T.H. Paget Collection, Sotheby Auction, 15-16 November 1984, lot 759.

Plate 2. This is one of the designs which Paget was invited to submit in 1972 and which were not approved, even though the central portrait of the Duke of Edinburgh, modelled in 1969 and first used by the Pobjoy Mint in 1970, was an undoubted success which the subject thought ‘splendid’. It appears to have been his last commission (Dyer, NC 1980, p.175)
