M.M. London Gazette 25 January 1943. Recommendation states, ‘On the 2nd November 1942 at an Advanced Dressing Station established near Support Headquarters 9th Armoured Brigade, the work and conduct of this soldier was worthy of the highest traditions of his Corps. He brought in wounded and tended them under heavy fire and finally when a shell struck the dressing station he lay upon the patient whom he was dressing, thus saving him from further injury. In so doing, Pte. Edwards was himself wounded and so concluded a period of brave and untiring efforts to help his section officer in attending to casualties’.

Private Ernest Edwards was serving in the 166 Light Field Ambulance, R.A.M.C, at the time of the above action.
