M.M. London Gazette 24 September 1942. ‘... in recognition of gallant and distinguished services in the Middle East’.

Recommendation reads: ‘Capt. P. L. Headon, R.A.M.C., A. Coy., 149 (N) Field Ambulance, R.A.M.C. states: On the evening of 1 June 42 an Echelon Column was heavily bombed. During the bombing Sgt. Doxford was in the body of the Section truck and as soon as the raid was over he was ordered to get the Section equipment out and open up a dressing station. Sgt. Doxford at once complied and with others helped to prepare for the reception of casualties. During this time he did not state that he himself had been wounded and it was only when he collapsed that it was discovered he had a severe wound in the right upper chest, penetrating to the lung. Despite his wound, Sgt. Doxford had carried on with his duties as Senior N.C.O. in the Section and at the time of his collapse was endeavouring to treat the casualties which were being brought in. His conduct and devotion to duty was in accordance with the highest traditions of his Corps’.
