Sold at Sotheby in May 1895, and listed in the Gray Collection 1898 which was sold at Glendining in May 1920.

William Hazard served as an Able Seaman aboard the Charon at the first action and as Quartermaster in the same ship in Egypt.

The Charon 44 was launched in Bristol in 1783 but was converted to a Hospital Ship in 1794. In this capacity she was present with Admiral Howe’s fleet on the Glorious First of June 1794, and with Lord Bridport’s fleet in the action off Groix on 23 June 1795. In 1800 she was converted to a Storeship, armed en flute, and the following year was part of Lord Keith’s fleet which landed the army at Aboukir Bay, Egypt, on 8 March.
