Armorial Stall Plate, bearing the arms of Archibald Russell, C.V.O., Clarenceaux King of Arms and Earl Marshal’s Secretary, formerly Lancaster Herald, enamelled in their proper colours on brass, 210mm x 153mm, together with a fine studio portrait photograph of Russell in his ceremonial uniform, good condition (2) £200-300

Archibald George Blomefield Russell was born on 20 June 1979 and educated at Eton9King’s Scholar) and Christ Church, Oxford (Classical Scholar). He was temporarily employed at the Colonial Office 1917-18; temporary Secretary, HM’s Embassy, Madrid 1918; acting Third Secretary, HM’s Embassy, Madrid 1919; Rouge Croix Pursuivant of Arms; Earl Marshal’s Secretary; Lancaster Heral 1922; Clarenceux King of Arms 1954; M.V.O. (4th class) 1929; C.V.O. 1945; Russell was a J.P. for Dorset, and published several works on the letters and engravings of William Blake. He died on 30 November 1955.
