Albert R. Manton attested for the 1st Royal Dragoons and served with them in South Africa during the Boer War (entitled to a Queen’s South Africa Medal with 3, not 6, clasps, and the King's South Africa Medal with the usual two date clasps). He saw further service during the Great War on the Western Front from 8 October 1914, but the M.M. and Mention in Despatches are both unconfirmed and appear to be entirely self-awarded.
