James VI (1567-1625), Before Accession, Third coinage, Sixteen Shillings, 1581, mm. cross, crowned shield, rev. crowned thistle between I - R, 29.51g/8h (SCBI 35, 1234; SCBI 58, 1448; B 1a, fig. 930; S 5482). A double electrotype of good workmanship, probably Victorian, better than very fine, the original coin extremely rare £150-£200
This appears to be an electrotype copy of the unprovenanced specimen in the National Museums of Scotland Collection (SCBI 58, 1448) [H.C457]
