Built in the 18th century and much expanded c. 1792, Egglesfield House was acquired around 1810 by Rev J. Morris D.D. for use as a young gentlemen’s boarding school. By 1840, it had reverted to being a private dwelling and since 1880 it has housed St Mary’s Convent.
