Percival Henry Skeens was born at Landport, Portsmouth, in 1882 and attested for the Hampshire Regiment at Portsmouth on 4 February 1901, having previously served in the Regiment’s 3rd Volunteer Battalion. He served with the 2nd Battalion in South Africa during the Boer War from 16 March 1901 to 13 May 1902, and was discharged on 12 June 1902.
