Six: Master at Arms T. Arding, Royal Navy

Thomas Arding was born in Grove, Berkshire, on 9 February 1880 and joined the Royal Navy as a Boy Second Class on 25 March 1896. He served in H.M.S. Dido from 10 May 1898 to 11 January 1902, and was promoted Able Seaman on 1 April 1900. Advanced Ship’s Corporal on 20 March 1909, he was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 18 March 1913, and served during the Great War in a variety of ships and shore based establishments, being advanced Master at Arms on 5 February 1917. He was shore pensioned on 9 June 1921, and subsequently joined the Royal Fleet Reserve.
