Piette, Olivier Maurice (Belgian, 1885-1948); b. Ghent, and Fonson, Jean, later Jules (Brussels, 1848-present)

BELGIUM, Bevrijding van Gent [The Liberation of Ghent], 1944, a bronze plaque by O.M. Piette for Fonson, standing guard in medieval armour regarding eagle flying above a maple leaf, unicorn, bison and advancing soldiers, rev. honour to our liberators, edge impressed j fonson and with foundry mark, 90 x 81mm, 296.87g (cf. Elsen 101, 1647 for obv.; cf. BSJ 48, 426 for obv.). Very fine; in faded maroon case of issue £40-£50
