James Dean Hall was born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne on 27 May 1900 and joined the Royal Navy for the duration of the Great War on 9 May 1918. Serving in the minesweeper H.M.S. Belvoir, he was advanced Stoker First Class on 17 March 1919, and was shore demobilised on 2 May 1919. He later joined the Royal Air Force, and at the outbreak of the Second World War was serving as a Sergeant in the Royal Air Force based at R.A.F. Speke. He died in 1967.
