Knight Bachelor’s Badge, silver-gilt; The Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George, C.M.G., Companion’s badge, silver-gilt and enamel, lacking central medallion; The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, C.B.E. (Civil) Commander’s 2nd type badge, silver-gilt and enamel; Military Cross, G.V.R.; 1914-15 Star; British War and Victory Medals, with M.I.D. oak leaves; Jubilee 1935; Coronation 1937; Coronation 1953; Jubilee 1977, mounted as worn but now lacking mounting pin, the 1914-15 Star, Jubilee 1935, and M.I.D. oak leaves detached but present, the CMG in relic condition, otherwise nearly very fine (11) £100-£140

Sir Robert Joseph Webster was born on 10 June 1891 and was educated at Charters Towers School, Queensland. He served during the Great War in Egypt, Gallipoli, and on the Western Front with the Australian Imperial Force and on the Staff (being the first Australian to be appointed to the Staff at General HQ, France), and for his services was Mentioned in Despatches (London Gazette 31 December 1918) and was awarded the Military Cross.

In civilian life Webster was Chairman, General Manager, and Managing Director of Bradford Cotton Mills Ltd. (later Bradmill Industries Ltd.), and served on many Government Committees. He was sometime Chancellor of the University of New South Wales, and was a Justice of the Peace for Queensland. For his public services he was appointed C.B.E. and C.M.G., and was conferred the honour of Knighthood in the 1963 Birthday Honours’ List. He died on 4 August 1981.
