William Richard Sheldrick was born in North Shields, Northumberland in April 1895. He was the son of a merchant seaman, and served during the Great War with the 1st Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers in the French theatre of war. He died on wounds on the Western Front on 27 September 1918, and is commemorated on the Vis-En-Artois Memorial, Pas de Calais, France.
