M.S.M. London Gazette 22 August 1918: A./Q.M.S. W. Buxton, 1st Mounted Rifles (Natal Carbineers), Mounted Rifles (Active Citizen Force)
‘For valuable service in the field and in connection with the campaign in German South-West Africa 1914-15.’
The original Recommendation states: ‘Walter Buxton did excellent work throughout the campaign. When the Regiment, owing to the rapid advance through the desert, was cut off from its base his first consideration was obtaining food for his men, regardless of his own comfort, and his unselfish hard work is worthy of the highest praise.’
Walter Buxton attested for the 1st Mounted Rifles (Natal Carbineers) on 21 August 1914, and was promoted to Sergeant Trumpeter on 1 May 1915.
