Charles H. Spicer served as a Trumpeter with the Hampshire Yeomanry and was awarded his Territorial Force Efficiency Medal per Army Order 8 of 1 January 1914; and the Second Award Bar per Army Order 82 of 31 May 1932, whilst serving as a Bombardier with the Royal Artillery; in between he had served with the Royal Engineers and the 6th Reserve Regiment of Cavalry.
