Ernest Sutton attested for the West Yorkshire Regiment at York, and subsequently transferred to the Army Cyclist Corps. He served during the Great War with the 18th Battalion, and died of wounds on the Western Front on 22 October 1917. He is buried in Duhallow A.D.S. Cemetery, Belgium.

Sold with Home Secretary’s enclosure for the Defence Medal; copied Medal Index Cards; and a full set of copied service and medical records for Howell, who seemed to spend most of the Great War sick in hospital.
