Duncan McPherson served with the 78th Highlanders in India during the Great Sepoy Mutiny, and is shown on the latest published transcript of the medal roll as being entitled to the clasps Defence of Lucknow and Lucknow. The 78th Foot served as part of Sir Henry Havelock’s First Relief Force, and in the main received the Defence of Lucknow clasp, not the Relief of Lucknow clasp.
