Robert Wybergh Gordon Lawson attested for the London Regiment and served with the 4th Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 4 July 1915. Commissioned Second Lieutenant in the 1st Battalion, Gordon Highlanders on 29 April 1916, he was killed in action during the Battle of the Somme on 18 July 1916, during the Battalion’s attack on Longueval, on which date the Battalion suffered 333 casualties. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, France.
