South African Cavalry Officer’s Sword 1912 Pattern.
A rare example, the straight 89cm blade by Henry Wilkinson, Pall Mall, London (no number), with single fuller and etched both sides with the Imperial Crown, the Arms of South Africa and double legend, ‘South Africa’ ‘Zuid Afrika’, the Proteus plant and panels of scrolling foliage. Massive sheet metal hand guard wrought with floral designs and incorporating buds of the proteus plant, the pommel wrought with laurel sprays. The pistol shaped dermatine grip is covered with a wire bound fishskin. Leather bound wooden scabbard,
the blade dull overall but without rust, some rust patches to the plated hand guard, therefore good condition £300-£400
