Sidney Claude Heathman was born in Portsmouth in January 1904, entering naval service in November 1923. He was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 18 October 1938. H.M.S. Penelope was sunk by a U-boat on 18 February 1944 following the Anzio landings.
