A Danish silver and enamelled brooch by Anton Michelsen, circa 1960, of hollow tapering abstract form, inset with blue and green enamelled marquise-shaped highlights, designer marks not identified, length 6.5cm. £60-£70
Anton Michelsen (1809-1877) founded the A. Michelsen Company in Copenhagen in 1841 and was soon receiving commissions from the Royal Family. By 1848, he was officially made ‘Court Goldsmith and Maker of Orders’ . After his father’s death, Anton’s son Carl took over the business, making it the leading gold and silversmith company in Denmark. By 1972 the company was brought by the Royal Copenhagen Porcelain Manufactory and merged with the firm Georg Jensen Silversmiths Ltd.
