John Mitchell was born in Govan, Lanarkshire, and attested for the King’s Own Scottish Borderers at Glasgow. He served with the 7th Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 9 July 1915, and was killed in action on 25 September 1915, on the first day of the Battle of Loos. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Loos Memorial, France.
