Universal introduced the Polerouter watch in the 1950’s to honour the first commercial aircrafts that crossed the polar ice cap regions. The ‘polar route’ was used for flights between Los Angeles and Copenhagen and was originally operated by Scandinavian Airlines Systems. Early examples of the model proved to be very popular so Universal added other versions of the Polerouter to their production, such as the Polerouter De Luxe.
