Sidney Walter Kirt was born in Syston, Leicestershire, and attested for the Coldstream Guards at Leicester on 1 February 1915. He served with the 2nd Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front from 19 October 1915, and was killed in action on 14 September 1916, aged 19, during the battalion’s attack towards Lesboeufs on the Somme- during this attack the battalion suffered over 440 casualties. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, France.
