Thomas Alexander Lindores was born in Ireland on 3 July 1881 and entered the Royal Navy from the Merchant service on 8 February 1902, as a Stoker 2nd Class in H.M.S. Vivid II. Advanced to Leading Stoker on 22 May 1908 in H.M.S. Indus, he served as such in H.M.S. Fox between June 1908 and July 1910. His Great War service was in H.M.S. Blake, Vivid II, Dido and Maresfield.
