Frank Bergelin was born in Cardiff on 13 March 1915, of Swedish parents. He qualified for the I.G.S. medal while serving with 1st Indian Divisional Signals, the medal roll compiled and signed at Rawalpindi, 1 November 1938 (WO 100/98 refers). He entered a Short Service Commission as Lieutenant (Qr.-Mr.) on 20 May 1957; Captain (Qr.-Mr.), 9 September 1959; relinquished commission on completion of service, 20 May 1968, and granted the hon. rank of Major (Qr.-Mr.).
