Frederick James Burrin was born in London on 4 November 1888, and served during the Great War in Palestine with both the City of London Yeomanry and the 2nd Battalion Imperial Camel Corps. He was demobilised on 18 March 1919. His son, Able Seaman Dennis Edward Burrin, was killed in action during the Second World War off the Dutch coast whilst serving in H.M. Motor Torpedo Boat 417.

Thomas Courtenay attested for the Royal Dublin Fusiliers, and served with the 1st Battalion during the Great War in the Gallipoli theatre of War from 12 May 1915. He was wounded at Gallipoli in August 1915, and was discharged on 13 September 1917, receiving a Silver War Badge.
