John Charles Bailey was born 1 January 1851 in West Bengal, India, and qualified as Assistant Apothecary in the Indian Subordinate Medical Department on 10 May 1875. He was appointed Assistant Surgeon (Honorary Lieutenant) in the Bengal Establishment of the S.M.D. on 15 April 1901, and was promoted Senior Assistant Surgeon (Honorary Captain) on 31 May 1904. He retired on 1 January 1905 and moved back to England. He died in Liverpool in 1931.
