Charles Walter Day, born in Gillingham, Kent, and attested for the Northumberland Fusiliers. He served with the 1st/6th Battalion during the Great War on the Western Front, and died on 27 May 1918, aged 21. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Soissons Memorial, France. His brother, Private G. H. Day, served during the Great War with the Royal Fusiliers.
Percy Gordon William Hardy, the son of Private William Hardy, West Yorkshire Regiment, served during the Second World War with the Royal Army Service Corps, and died on 18 April 1942. A native of Newhaven, he is buried under a C.W.G.C. Headstone in Newhaven Cemetery. As a point of interest, on the 18 April 1942 there was an air raid in the Rownhams area of Southampton.
