Richard Sargent served in the 8th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment in the Great War. The edition of the London Gazette containing his M.M. announcement generally reflects awards for the period 8 August to 3 September 1918. The 8th Lincolns were engaged at the Second Battles of the Somme 1918 including the Battle of Albert: 21 – 23 August 1918 and the Second Battle of Bapaume: 31 August – 3 September 1918.

A handwritten note with the lot states that Richard Sargent was wounded once and served two years and eight months overseas.
