Royal Society for the Protection of Life from Fire, 3rd type, bronze, the obverse featuring a man carrying a woman over his shoulder, with a flaming building in the background, the reverse engraved ‘To Mr. Henry Hayward. for prompt and efficient services. 15 November 1852 (Case 1826)’, unmounted as issued, minor edge nick, otherwise extremely fine £180-£220
Henry Hayward was awarded the Royal Society for the Protection of Life from Fire’s Bronze Medal and a gratuity of 10 shillings ‘for rescuing six persons from the roof of a house at 78 Lombard Street, London. For his promptitude and presence of mind in aiding the escape of six persons from fire.’
