An 19th century silver and agate snuff box, the oblong box with rounded sides, the top with hinged cover, engraved with C-scrolls and foliate and centred with an oval agate panel, the sides similarly inset with two further agate panels, and with later decorated swags of flowering foliage, the base engraved with crest, and motto ”Fortis in arduis”, unmarked, length 5.5cm. £80-£100
“Fortis in arduis” translates from the Latin as “Strength in difficulties”.
