Hugh MacLeod Sheane was born in Nottingham in April 1916, and served as a Lieutenant with the 2nd Battalion, Royal Ulster Rifles from 1943. Honour to the Airborne by D. Buxton shows Sheane’s M.I.D. as an award for those who served as part of the 6th Air Landing Brigade for Normandy, June - September 1944.
Having advanced to Temporary Captain, Sheane died in hospital at Helmond, near Eindhoven, 27 November 1944. Captain Sheane is buried in Mierlo War Cemetery, Netherlands.
