Alexander Bolton Murray was born in Hornsey, London. He served during the Great War with ‘C’ Company 1/9th (County of London) Battalion, London Regiment (Queen Victoria’s Rifles). Murray was killed in action, 1 July 1916. On the latter date the Battalion served as part of the 169th Brigade, 56th (1st London) Division on the Somme. They were heavily engaged on the right of the Brigade’s attack at Gommecourt, and suffered 545 casualties.
Sergeant Murray is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
